Patent CAD Design & Prototyping for Inventors

Turning Patent-Stage Ideas Into Manufacturing-Ready CAD

Raleigh 3D Design provides patent CAD design and prototyping for inventors, entrepreneurs, and the attorneys who represent them. We turn early-stage ideas — often nothing more than a patent drawing and a set of written specifications — into accurate 3D CAD models and working prototypes suitable for patent applications and manufacturing.

This work is confidential by nature. Specifics of ongoing projects are kept private, but references and general project scope can always be discussed directly.

Case Study — Color-Coded IV Tube Organizer

An inventor came to Raleigh 3D Design with a concept for a flexible IV tube organizer — a clip-style device designed to keep multiple IV lines untangled and easy to identify at a glance, similar to a cord organizer but built for a clinical setting. Each clip position would be color-coded, allowing hospital staff to quickly distinguish between different tubing at a patient’s bedside.

The client’s only documentation was a multi-page patent drawing with detailed measurements and written specifications — no 3D model existed yet.

Original Patent Drawing

Client provided patent drawing that was from a multipage PDF describing the invention along with measurements.

Accurate 3D model made based on client’s specs outlined in original patent filing paperwork.

Finished Working Prototype

Actual working prototype made out of flexible 3d printable filament (TPU) shown clipping onto IV tubing.

Working directly from the patent filing paperwork, Raleigh 3D Design translated the 2D drawings and measurements into an accurate 3D CAD model, capturing the flexible clip geometry and multi-tube spacing needed for the device to function as intended.

The Result

The design was 3D printed using flexible TPU filament, producing a working prototype that successfully clips onto and organizes multiple IV tubes — proof of concept ready to support the client’s patent application and next-stage development.

Testimonial

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️”Thanks Shaun for leaving a lasting first impression with my very first attempt at invention prototyping. It was an outstanding and professional experience working with you. Thank you for your patience during the several revisions as you consistently delivered an impressive outcome that matched my dream. You’re much appreciated and will definitely recommend you.”

Why Attorneys Refer Inventors To Us

Patent attorneys regularly work with clients who have a strong concept but no way to visualize or manufacture it. That gap can stall a filing or weaken it — patent applications are stronger with clear, accurate technical drawings and a model that proves the concept works.

Raleigh 3D Design works directly from patent filing paperwork — drawings, measurements, written specifications — to produce CAD models and physical prototypes your clients can use to strengthen their applications or move toward manufacturing. If you have a client who needs this kind of support, we’re glad to be a resource.

Common Questions

Do you sign NDAs for confidential patent-stage projects?

Yes. Confidentiality is standard practice for this type of work.

Yes. Most projects start from the client’s existing patent paperwork — drawings, measurements, and written specifications.

Both. Projects typically include an accurate CAD model and, when needed, a 3D printed working prototype for testing or demonstration.

Either works. Attorneys are welcome to pass along contact info, or have the client reach out directly and mention the referral.
